All About Monster Bites
This story has been on my mind for a few years.
Family Meals
When enjoying a family meal, we often have cheese and biscuits instead of a pudding (we prefer savoury to sweet). During these meals, we discovered that my Dad is particular about how cheese is cut. We tease him about this, and cut the cheese in a wonky fashion on purpose. We even bought him a special cheeseboard one Christmas.
From Idea to Story
I wanted to write a story that would both honour my Dad and make him laugh.
The main character is a Prince (because our family surname is Prince) who wants his cheese ‘just so’ but his guests cut the cheese in a crazy fashion. Then there’s a monster causing trouble too.
Finally, in 2026, I combined my story idea with the rhyming style of Sing A Song Of Sixpence, and the blackbirds have joined in too. When the style of the story came into my mind, I sat down and wrote the whole story in a couple of days. Years in the thinking, 2 days in the writing. No doubt, a few months for editing and re-writing will be needed too.
I’ve read the first draft of this story to my Dad now and succeeded in making him laugh, so that is one goal realised. Next goal is to find an illustrator and turn this story into a book.
